The Palenstine, Ohio Derailment Disaster: How To Heal From Toxic Chemical Spills

Tuesday, February 21st, 2023
In February 2023, the social media world was rocked when several accounts began posting and sharing information that was glaringly absent from mainstream news sites. Immediately, their comments were limited and their views were censored. Shadowbans ensued. Many began talking about how this was not a coincidence and the government had planned this. Why were we kept “safe” for three years concerning Covid, but cannot speak about a disaster that affects human health?

Dr. Jess Peatross, MD, GP, IFMCP and Dr. John Kim, Pharm.D. FAARFM

What they were speaking of was the Palestine, Ohio Derailment Incident

On Feb 3, 2023, 50 cars on a Norfolk Southern Railroad train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio. They were full of toxic chemicals, including vinyl chloride. They were then set on fire by the government, apparently to make it easier to clear the railroad tracks. This was the worst possible decision. Many of the toxic chemicals bled into the soil and water, some were burned into the air. These chemicals are now affecting air quality within the East coastal states and certain areas like Hudson Valley portion of New York, local government officials are warning residents about the harmful air quality.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, four main toxic chemicals from the Ohio train wreck have already contaminated either air, soil, or water at the crash site. They include:

Vinyl Chloride

A highly flammable colorless gas used when making plastic is a known carcinogenic and linked to liver and breast cancer. It is used in making PVC plastics. It is not thought to bioaccumulate in the adipose or fat tissue as it is so volatile and rapidly degrades. Unfortunately, it is thought to be highly mobile in the ground and soil, which can affect drinking water.

Vinyl chloride is used to produce PVC plastics used for pipes, as well as in some packaging, coatings and wires.

Its health risks were uncovered at a B.F. Goodrich factory in the Rubbertown neighborhood of the city I attended medical school in -Louisville, Kentucky. In the 1970s, four workers involved in the polymerization process for producing polyvinyl chloride there each developed angiosarcoma of the liver, an extremely rare type of tumor.Their cases were paramount in the history of occupational medicine and led to the worldwide recognition of vinyl chloride as a carcinogen.

The direct, intracellular metabolism of vinyl chloride proceeds via oxidation in the liver to an intermediate compound (chlorooxirane) which ultimately degrades to carbon dioxide and water (Hartmans and DeBont, 1992). The chlorooxirane, however an unstable epoxide intermediate, that is converted during phase one liver metabolism. It is extremely toxic, so to fully get rid of it, our phase two liver metabolism must be in peak performance.

Vinyl chloride breaks down into phosgene, hydrogen chloride (and hydrochloric acid when burned) and 2-Hydroxyethyl Mercapturic Acid (HEMA), amongst other by products we will discuss. All of them are linked to breast cancer, liver cancer, nonalcoholic liver tissue or fatty liver, central nervous system defects, and leukemia.

  • Methanotroph anaerobic and aerobic bacteria supplements containing the phyla Proteobacteria and Verrucomicrobia help to rapidly breakdown vinyl chloride and its byproducts.
  • Extra iodine intake is helpful for this exposure as chloride is a halide and we don’t want the body to take up excess halides in place of iodine. For cancer risk, loss of iodine is a causal factor. Temper iodine with selenium to protect the thyroid.
  • Opening drainage is always the first step and should be pursued in this situation-pooping 2-3x/day, sweating easily, proper lymph and liver movement, bile fluidity, restorative sleep, and breathwork.
  • Cell membrane and mitochondrial support: Phospholipids, B vitamins, niacin, NADH, CoQ10, ALA, carnitine, NRF2 promoters, minerals like potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese, fulvic acids, MitoPure
  • Methylene blue
  • Phase two liver support: TUDCA, methionine, choline, taurine, NAC, glutathione, B vitamins, calcium-D-glucarate
  • Mushrooms like Cordyceps, Reishi, and Chaga
  • Topical solutions include coconut oil, hypochlorous acid, essential oils like frankincense and tea tree, and aloe vera. Compounding pharmacies can compound Topical Calcium D-Gluconate Gel for chemicals burns.
  • Superoxide Dismutase

Phosgene is a more toxic by product of vinyl chloride and this what experts were trying to avoid creating when they burned the chemicals in the derailment. Phosgene is a by-product of burning vinyl chloride.

It produces reactive oxygen species, known as hydroxy radicals, damages DNA, causes non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema, and respiratory death. Phosgene is likely what killed the fish and wildlife immediately. Opening drainage and providing building blocks for Acetylation in phase two liver detox is paramount to eradicate phosgene.

  • Calcium-D-glucarate as an antioxidant and liver health
  • Lobelia, marshmallow root for lung injury
  • broccoli sprouts or other NRF2 promoters
  • NAC, taurine, B vitamins, magnesium and glutathione for phase two liver support
  • Ozone and hyperbaric oxygen chambers
  • Antihistamines such as stinging nettles, DAO enzyme, vitamin C and quercetin.
  • Mitochondrial support with ALA, CoQ10, fulvic acid, PQQ
  • Methylene blue and phosphatidylcholine

Butyl Acrylate

The Problem: A flammable clear liquid used in making paints, copolymers, sealants, coatings, adhesives, fuel, textiles, plastics, and caulk. It is known to cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system.

In rodent models, butyl acrylate is metabolized by carboxylesterase or reactions with glutathione, this detoxification produces acrylic acid, butanol, and mercapturic acid waste, which is excreted. So up that phase two liver detox and open drainage! Taurine, TUDCA, choline, methionine, glutathione, castor oil packs.

Ethylhexyl Acrylate

A colorless liquid used in making paints and plastics can produce hazardous vapors under heat. Avoidance, liver support, sweating, NAC/Glutathione

Ethylene glycol Monobutyl

A highly flammable colorless liquid used in making solvent is deemed as acutely toxic. Avoidance, liver support, sweating, NAC.

Is known as a volatile organic compound that is rapidly metabolized and forms toxic by products that make reactive oxygen species, damages DNA, disrupt Glutathione synthesis, and induce cell death or apoptosis.

Benzene starts out as a liquid, but when exposed to air, it evaporates very quickly. Once evaporated, its dense vapors can accumulate in low-lying areas. It can also dissolve in water and be spread through waterways and rain run-off. It is found in rubber, lubricants, dyes, detergents, pesticides, plastics and paints.

Longterm exposure is linked to cancer, specifically leukemia, anemia, decreased immunity and infertility issues.

Avoidance, air filters, open drainage like sweating and bile movement, binders, avoid EMF.

Actionable Plan to Prep for What’s to Come

As we mentioned about certain part of Eastern Coastal states are now noticing poor air quality and acid rain production. East Palentine incident is going cause major environmental and health consequences to humans/animals for years to come. Best things we can do is to stay calm and control the things we can. We provided wealth of information above so in this section, we will summarize an actiionable plan:

Support Your Drainage Pathways

In supporting any form biotoxin/environmental toxins, we need to support our drainage pathway – supporting our bowel movement; proper liver/bile flow, kidney, sweating, and lymphatic drainage. This is the very basic bodily support we can provide and to improve now. Here are basic supplement protocols we can provide:

  1. KL Support (CellCore) – Herbal combination to facilitate the normal removal of toxin-laden material via the liver and kidneys. This product also helps to promote healthy bile flow and also support body’s natural antioxidant protection of the liver and kidneys
  2. LymphActive (CellCore) – When our body’s digestive system is compromised, our lymphatic system takes the heaviest amount of toxins as a result it can overall compromise the body’s natural detoxification processes. Use of LymphActive can help support drainage and healthy inflammation/immune response in the body. This can also deliver anti-oxidant, healing herbs to the lymphatic system
  3. Bowel Mover (CellCore) – This herbal combination suplement helps to increase gut mobility including intestinal peristalsis and proper digestive function. This herb can further be supported with Super Aloe 450 (Ortho Molecular) or other pro-kinetic agents to increase bowel movement if needed.
  4. Far Infrared Sauna – Therasage Far Infrared or High Dose Far Infrared blankets are great way to sweat and detox. We recommend using carbon based binders like ViradChem / HMET Binder + Tudca + KL Support 5 minutes prior to sauna session to get the most benefit possible from your sauna session. We should all be detoxing daily and minimize toxic burden in our body

Cell Membrane Support

When undergoing toxin exposure – our body’s own mitochondria undergoes a response called Cell Danger Response (CDR). Our mitochondria is very sensitive to chemicals and toxins as a result – in response to CDR – it will undergo a heavy inflammatory process including pumping out polyamines and phospholipids within the cell to protect the cells from further damage.  This cause the mitochondria to go through a dysfunctional state and will not able to function in orchestrating a proper detox and healing response.  And to add further insult  to the cell membrane and mitochondria, our own body’s phospholipid reserve get depleted which increase further damages.  This can lead to poor detoxification, immune imbalance and inflammation cytokines increasing its activity to render our cells unable to function.
To alleviate this issue – adding in liposomal phospholipids, bioactive oil, minerals, and fatty acids like butyrate are essential to calm the cell danger response (essentially the mitochondria)  and regain the cell membrane integrity.  In September 2022, Li et al. had states that (poly)vinyl chloride can affect the cell membrane integrity by disrupting the properties of the multicomponent lipid bilayer – Being that this is the case, utilizing liposomal phospholipids and bioactive oil can support the cell’s bilayer membrane and keep its integrity in check. Additionally, fatty acids like sodium butyrate has been shown to attenuate DNA repair further proving that cell membrane lipid therapy are essential in protecting us from chemical toxins.
Phospholipids also support methylation process including phase 2 detox pathway.
We recommend taking BodyBio PC, Balanced Oil, Liquid Mineral, and Sodium Butyrate to support this process.

Dosing Recommendation:

  1. BodyBio PC Capsules or liquid – (Phospholipid complex) 2 capsules twice a day with food or 2.5mL of liquid (½ teaspoonful)  twice a day with food
  2. BodyBio Balanced Oil (Omega 6 and Omega 3 in 4:1 ratio) – contains non-oxidized linoleic acid to support cell membrane and inner outer structure of the cell. 2 capsules twice a day with food or 2.5ml of liquid (½ teaspoonful) twice a day with food
  3. BodyBio Liquid Mineral (Contains trace minerals of potassium, zinc, magnesium, chromium, manganese, and molybdenum – key essential mineral for cell membrane especially the electron transport chain). Mix 5mL in 8 oz of water and drink to wash down BodyBio PC and Balanced Oil
    1. **CellCore CT-Mineral can be substituted for BodyBio Liquid Mineral**
  4. BodyBio Sodium Butyrate Capsules – Take 2 capsules daily at bedtime.

How Dr. Kim recommends taking Phospholipid for best absorption:

Dr. Kim’s PC Pudding – After a meal, mix desired amount of PC liquid, Balanced Oil Liquid and Liquid mineral in a small cup and triturate until tapioca pudding texture is formed.  This helps to form true liposomal delivery of minerals deep in the cell and ingesting a complete lipid delivery needed for proper cell membrane support. ex) 5ml of PC liquid, 5ml of Balanced Oil, 5mL of Liquid Mineral – mix then ingest
Use of cell membrane therapy like BodyBio PC and  products can cause “herxheimer” reaction because its effectiveness of detoxing toxins out of the cell membrane.  We recommend using smaller dose of 2.5ml or 2 capsules daily to start then slowly increase. For general support, 2 to 4 capsules (1/2 to 1 teaspoonful of liquid) twice a day with food is great way to incorporate into your regimen.  For sensitive patients, take as low as 1ml of PC liquid is an acceptable way to start.
For severe biotoxin issues like toxin exposure including mold toxins, dosing can get much high into. High dosing PC should be supervised by your practitioner.

Other Cell Membrane Supporting Supplements:

  1. CoQ10 – 100 to 300mg daily with food
  2. Vitamin B6 (P5P) – 50mg daily
  3. Magnesium Glycinate – 400 to 600mg daily at bedtime
  4. L-Carnitine – 500mg twice a day
  5. D-Ribose – 5gm daily
  6. Vitamin C (Liposomal) – 1000mg once or twice daily
  7. Liposomal Glutathione  or L-Glutathione – 250mg twice a day on an empty stomach
  8. N-Acetyl Cysteine – 600mg 2 to 3 times a day on an empty stomach. This is not as biovailable

Avoid Minmize Toxin Exposure and Additional Prepping

  • Use of protect goggles and/or masks might be needed – We should all have plans to protect ourselves and family in case of these chemicals reaching our areas. It is important to prep at this time.
  • Water Filtration Device – We can not filter out everything of our tap water however purchasing a good effective filtration device can help us avoid harmful halogens like chloride, fluoride, bromine and other chemicals. It does not have to do be expensive. Many of our colleagues uses Therasage counter top water filter – this is very inexpensive. Looking at distillation machines and reverse osmosis (such As Aqua Tru are another great way to filter your water. Having a back-up such as water filter straws are also good thing have just in case everything else fails. For a filter that filters, adds dissolved hydrogen which can displace radiation, and then structures–check out one the docs’ favorite, Spring Aqua. (
  • Emergency Awareness – Please have your emergency first aid kits ready including supplements and medications to prepare you just in case.

Our hearts go out to the victims in Palestine, Ohio. We hope you are able to empower yourself with knowledge to heal.
